Be it spending a cozy evening relishing warm soup, or to serve those little servings of desserts, pasta or any delicacies…These hand-painted floral-patterned bowls would sure take your culinary experience to another level. And to add to your convenience, these descendants of a centuries old handicraft are microwave safe!
Material: Quartz stone powder, powdered glass, Katira Gond powder, Multani Mitti, Saaji and water.
Colour: Blue(Do note that sometimes the colour on the screen appear brighter).
Care: Don’t use sharp objects to clean. Don’t stack over the other. Make sure to wipe immediately after washing with a soft cloth.
Fun Fact: Blue Pottery come from the eye-catching blue dye used by Egyptians Technology and art is derived from Turko- Persian style.

Description

History of Jaipur Blue Pottery

The part of blue pottery came to Jaipur from Persia and Afghanistan via Mughal courts. They started using it in various architecture and later it was introduced in Delhi and transferred to Jaipur artisans in the 17th century.
The craft became popular and was considered the special art of Jaipur from the early 19th century under the reign of Swami Ram Singh.

The 6 Ingredients 

The dough to form the pottery is made by mixing 6 ingredients quartz stone powder, powdered glass, Katira Gond powder, Multani Mitti, Saaji and water.

The Blue Colour

The blue colour or turquoise colour is obtained by the combination of crude copper oxide with salt or sugar in a kiln and then filtering it for use. The dark ultramarine colour is obtained from cobalt oxide.

Common Motifs and Designs 

These are paired with gold and silver designs and the style of art is derived from the Turko-Persian style. These vessels mostly have designs of birds and animals such as horses and camels.

Variety and Decoration with Brush

They have different types of products such as ashtrays, jars, cups, tea sets, small bowls,  crockery and many other utensils. Moreover, it is decorated with a brush when the pot is rotated.

No Identical Replicas

It is very difficult to make identical replicas of any product. It takes at least 15 to 20 days to finish the product it is not only time-consuming, tedious but also quite expensive.It usually ends up with a pattern that may not be exactly similar to what was planned originally. This is one of the main features which keeps the is the craftsmen interested in continuing to keep this craft alive.

Present Day Scenario

Despite the demand from the local market, there are other challenges faced by the artist in the international market because the production quality is not very appreciable and competition from the other types of potteries exist such as Khurja Pottery. Moreover, they fave great difficulty in marketing their products because mostly they are uneducated and not aware of the existing trends.
